LAWFORD HOUSING ENTERPRISE TRUST
Providing affordable housing for the young people of Lawford, Manningtree and Mistley
The Lawford Housing Enterprise Trust (LHET) has the simple and sole aim of providing affordable rented housing for young local people within the Parishes of Lawford, Manningtree and Mistley.
The Trust’s schemes support tenants to save funds to put towards a deposit to buy their own home.
No fees are required on occupancy; tenants pay an affordable monthly payment which includes their rent and an additional monthly sum of £100.
The additional £100 firstly provides a five-week deposit provision (in accordance with the Tenant Fees Act 2019) and will be held securely in a Government Deposit Scheme, to be returned to the tenant if the dwelling is returned to the LHET after tenancy in good condition.
The future £100 contributions (in addition to rent and deposit) will be held in trust and will be returned to the tenant on the completion of their tenancy. It is intended that this cumulative sum would be combined with their tenant’s own savings for them to put towards their future home deposit.
The LHET took possession of its first homes in July 2018 and will be increasing the number of properties available as they are delivered from future developments in the villages. The eligibility criteria can be obtained from the About tab of this website.
